Do you have a minimum standard?

Yes, for your own health and safety you should be able to run for at least 5 miles in under one hour in order to stay with other runners. This is especially important on Wednesday evenings during the winter months (October to April) when it is dark.

If you are unable to run this distance and time, then please do not be put off, our coaches can offer you advice to help you achieve the minimum standard required in order for you to join. Please contact the Membership Secretary via the Contact Us page for contact with a coach.

I can run the minimum standard, how do I join your club?

Please get in touch with us first via the Contact Us page.

We recommend you come along as a guest for a couple of Wednesdays to get a feel for the Club before becoming a member. We meet on a Wednesday night at Leicester Rowing Club. On your first visit, you should aim to get there for 7 pm, so we have time to introduce you to some members who run a similar pace to you.

Announcements begin at 7.15pm with everyone out on their run by 7.30pm. Normally there are running groups ranging from Sub 7 minute mile pace to 10-minute mile pace with distances varying between 5 and 8 miles. There is often a “quality” session also available.

You may run with us twice as a guest for free, after that, to continue running with us you will need to become a member.

I’ve run with you as a guest, how do I join as a member?

To join please contact the Membership Secretary via the Contact Us page.

Once you join you will be able to continue training with us on Club nights, receive the weekly e-newsletter, have access to our Members Facebook group, be able to purchase club kit, be able to compete in races for the club, attend track sessions and participate in our social events. You will receive confirmation of membership and club information.

What if I cannot attend Club Nights but I want to be a part of the Club and compete in races for the Club?

Obviously participating in club nights will get you the best out of your membership but if Wednesday nights don’t work for you, it is still possible to join the Club. You complete the membership form and pay your membership fee by contacting the Membership Secretary.

You will be able to run for West End Runners in races; will also receive our weekly e-newsletter and have access to our Members Facebook group. Members often advertise informal runs and social events on Facebook and within the newsletter so you can still participate in Club life.

Do you have a junior section?

No. West End Runners is for over 18s only.

How do I contact the Membership Secretary?

Please visit the Contact Us page.

How much is membership?

Membership is annual and runs 1st April to 31st March. The cost is currently £24 for a full year reduced to £12 for students and the unwaged. Payment is made via a link emailed to you on joining or renewal.

Where can I park my pushbike?

There is a bike rack outside the Rowing Club; a good lock is recommended as the area will be unattended for most of the evening.

Where can I park my car?

There is parking at the Rowing Club. Please park so that other vehicles can pass easily. If you park at the back of the clubhouse, please avoid the area by the big doors – the rowers need access at all times, and space to move long boats between the water and the doors. Please see map here.

If the Rowing Club car park is full, there is parking on Eastern Boulevard. Please ask about us about car sharing.

Where can I put my things while I’m out running?

There are free-to-use lockers available for you to use at the Rowing Club.

Do I need to bring any money when I visit as a guest?

No, there is no charge to be a guest, and teas and coffees after the runs are free of charge.

Do I need to get in touch before coming to club or track for the first time?

Please contact us on Membership Secretary via the Contact Us page so we know you’re coming.

We can explain any special arrangements and let you know what’s planned. And it gives you a chance to ask any questions you have about your running and the club.
